Every relationship has its own ups and downs. With social media playing a huge part of our everyday lives, it can seem like every other person out there is having a beautiful, healthy relationship but ourselves.
Truth be told, it takes a lot of conscious, continuous and consistent effort to make a relationship work in the long run. Have you been wondering why, despite having an amazing and supportive partner, you couldn’t find yourself being happy?
The answer is in the question itself. If YOU want to be happy, YOU need to make the initiative. Instead of looking outside, you have to start from within.
You have to acknowledge the source of your feelings first. Perhaps you feel insecure, lonely and desperate. You want someone to come along, sweep you off your feet and eventually help you feel better about your miserable life.
Unfortunately, expectations can kill. And you are responsible for your own happiness. You can’t simply hand over the responsibilities for your life to another person. Not even your partner. They are supposed to complement you, not complete you.
It’s a long journey of healing. You start slowly but surely. You take time to know what makes you happy. More so, how YOU can make you happy. Your mental and emotional health comes first. Make sure you’re free from the residual baggage from your past.
In essence, you have to put yourself first when it comes to happiness. Otherwise, you will end up destroying your relationship as the result of projecting your insecurities and loneliness on your partner and the relationship.
Remember again, slowly but surely.
